Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kings XI Punjab in match number 25 of the Indian Premier League 2018 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Sunrisers go into the clash following a surprise win in the low-scoring contest against Mumbai Indians. Kings XI Punjab also go in having a closer win in a similar contest against Delhi Daredevils.
After a couple of poor results, Sunrisers Hyderabad came back strongly and defended 119 in the match against Mumbai Indians. Although Mumbai’s batting floundered, there was some excellent bowling from Sunrisers’ end. Rashid Khan, who was taken apart by Chennai and Punjab in previous games, came back with a superb spell of 2 for 11 against Mumbai. Siddarth Kaul continued to be impressive with three wickets in the same game. Now, it remains to be seen if Bhuvaneswar Kumar will be fit for the challenge against Punjab.
Despite the victory in the last match, worries remain for Sunrisers in the batting department. Their overdependence on skipper Kane Williamson and opener Shikhar Dhawan continues. Until that changes, they are expected to struggle with the bat in future games as well. The likes of Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan will need to significantly improve their game.
Unlike previous years, Kings XI Punjab have been one of the better teams in the tournament. Under Kings XI Punjab, they have looked a completely different outfit. Chris Gayle and KL Rahul, the aggressive openers, have been their two key weapons. This was evident in the previous match as, in Gayle’s absence, they stumbled to 143 for 8. Luckily, a poor Delhi Daredevils allowed them to sneak in a win.
The good news for Punjab is that Gayle is expected to return for the game against the team versus which he had great fun last time. Remember the four sixes of Rashid Khan. In the batting, Yuvraj Singh’s form remains a concern. The bowling side has been excellent. Andrew Tye has claimed wickets consistently while Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Barinder Sran and Ankit Rajpoot have all done well.
