Chennai Super Kings will take on Delhi Daredevils in Match number 30 of the India Premier League 2018 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium, Pune on Monday. Chennai Super Kings may be table toppers, but they were shocked by Mumbai Indians in their previous game, which was a setback of sorts. In contrast, Delhi Daredevils stunned Kolkata Knight Riders thanks to a captain’s knock by new skipper Shreyas Iyer. DD will look to continue the good work against CSK as well.
Chennai will be disappointed with the way things panned out against Mumbai. In spite of a fluent 75 not out from Suresh Raina, they failed to get going towards the end. It is no secret that Chennai prefer chasing, but they need to learn to put up big scores on the board batting first as well. Chennai also need to look beyond Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo as finishers. Clearly, it is time for Ravindra Jadeja to stand up and deliver.
CSK’s bowling in defence of a decent score was also disappointing. Shardul Thakur and Shane Watson went for plenty, and for a change, even Imran Tahir was disappointing. In their defence though, it must be said that it was the batting that let them down against Mumbai.
Delhi went into the match against Kolkata under uncertain circumstance after Gautam Gambhir announced his shock stepping down as skipper and Shreyas Iyer taking over. But, what Delhi achieved in their last game was nothing short of stunning. Iyer, led from the front, and scored a brilliant 93 not out from merely 40 balls. He got excellent support from Prithvi Shaw. And, with Rishabh Pant also in form, Delhi finally seem in some sort of order.
It would be interesting to see if Gautam Gambhir continues to stay out of the playing XI. Delhi’s bowling also did a reasonable job against Kolkata. Trent Boult went for runs, but claimed a couple of big scalps at the top. Glenn Maxwell was also a surprise hero with the ball, claiming two wickets. The trio of Avesh Khan, Amit Mishra and Liam Plunkett also impressed with their performance.
Played 16. Chennai won 12, Delhi won 4
