An upbeat Kolkata Knight Riders will face a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League 2018 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Kolkata go into the clash following a comeback victory against Rajasthan Royals. Hyderabad, on the other hand, have now lost four in four.
A few hiccups aside, Kolkata have been excellently led by Dinesh Karthik. After more than a decade of toil, the Tamil Madurai batsman finally seems to be getting his place in the spotlight. Kolkata recovered excellently against Rajasthan thanks to good knocks from Karthik himself along with Shubman Gill and Andre Russell.
Under pressure, their bowling also proved its mettle against the Royals. Sunil Narine has batted brilliantly, but he needs to do more with the bat. Kuldeep Yadav has also returned to impressive ways. What Kolkata need now is more consistency from Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa with the bat.
For Sunrisers, the downfall has been as shocking, as impressive was their climb to the top of the points table. It is their bowling which brought them glory, and the same aspect has caused their downfall. Another loss on Friday would mean the doors are shut for them. But, Sunrisers would do well to look at the positive side, and believe that they are still in the tournament.
While the bowlers would need to pick up their game, skipper Kane Williamson would need all the support he gets from the other batsmen. Shikhar Dhawan could be a key batsman. If he gets going, the past wouldn’t matter much. SRH would also be desperate for Manish Pandey to fire, for he would be all too familiar with the Eden atmosphere.
