Cricket’s image was dealt with another jolt last week when Al Jazeera put out a documentary, ‘Cricket’s Match Fixers’, claiming that corrupting was still rampant in cricket, particularly spot-fixing and even pitch fixing.
The channel’s sting video, allegedly caught on camera, a former Mumbai cricketer Robin Morris, a number of Sri Lankan players – Dilhara Lokuhettige, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Tharindu Mendis — as well as Pakistan’s Hasan Raza, credited as being the youngest ever Test debutant, discussing various ways to alter the course of a game.
Well, cricket stings are nothing new. A couple before the latest one, led to serious implications on the game as well as the players. We will have to wait and watch what impact the latest allegations has on the gentleman’s game, and the players allegedly involved.
